String Instruments

String instruments are musical instruments that produce sound from vibrating strings. In most strings instruments, the vibrations are transmitted to the body of the instrument, which also vibrate, along the air inside it. In the Hornbostel-Sachs scheme of musical instrument classification, used in organology, they are called chordophones. Some common instruments in the string family are violin, guitar, sitar, electric bass, viola, cello, harp, double bass, rabab, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, and bouzouki.;

 

Santoor

Santoor is a Trapezoid shaped hammered dulcimer which is struck with light wooden mallets. The number of strings may be as few as 24 or more than 100. Typical sizes tend to be around 80. Santoor is made of woods mainly of Walnut, rosewood etc. The Indian santoor is more rectangular and can have more strings than the original Persian counterpart, which generally has 72 strings.
